Islamabad United have continued their impressive start to the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season by cruising to a comprehensive victory over Peshawar Zalmi. The match, which was played at the National Stadium in Karachi, saw Islamabad chase down Peshawar's total of 159 runs with an astonishing 31 balls to spare.
Peshawar's innings was anchored by Babar Azam, who carried his bat throughout the innings to finish on an unbeaten 75. However, the rest of the team crumbled around him as Islamabad's bowlers wreaked havoc. Mohammad Haris provided a promising start for Peshawar with a quickfire 40, but his dismissal triggered a collapse that saw them lose 4 wickets for just 18 runs. Hasan Ali was the pick of the bowlers for Islamabad, taking three wickets, while Shadab Khan chipped in with one.
In response, Islamabad got off to a solid start, with Colin Munro and Rahmanullah Gurbaz putting on 31 runs for the first wicket. Gurbaz then took the attack to Peshawar's bowlers, scoring a quickfire 62 off just 29 balls, which included 10 boundaries and 2 sixes. Rassie van der Dussen also played a crucial role, scoring 42 off 30 balls. Asif Ali then finished the match in style, smashing an unbeaten 29 off just 13 balls.
With this victory, Islamabad have now won two out of their three matches and have moved into second place in the PSL points table, behind Multan Sultans. Peshawar, on the other hand, have suffered their second defeat of the season and are currently in fifth place.
