My three years as a student of Theatre Arts at the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) were the most precious days of my life. I have been enrolled in 2005 as the student of its very first batch and we have enjoyed the prime time of this Academy. When I entered the audition room I saw Talat Hussain and Zia Mohyeddin along with Sherazi Sahib. It was the most difficult exam of my life because I had to perform two audition pieces in front of those giants. I felt that some electromagnetic rays were emitting from Talat Sahib and Zia Sahib. But as you once pass that audition then you will be the strongest candidate for any other competition. I am still attached to my prestigious Academy as a Faculty Member and Course Coordinator.

Introduction:

NAPA is an academy of its own kind. It is providing training in performing arts i.e. Music and Theatre Arts and has been playing a pivotal role in promoting and preserving the diverse cultural heritage of our country. It was founded in 2005 by the internationally renowned artist Mr. Zia Mohyeddin and his core team of legendary artists such as Dr. Enwer Sajjad, Mr. Rahat Kazmi, Mr. Arshad Mahmud, Mr. Talat Hussain, Mr. Anjum Ayaz, Mr. Khalid Ahmed and Mr. Nafees Ahmed. With his passion for the performing arts and a desire to create an institution that could provide comprehensive training to aspiring artists, Mohyeddin envisioned NAPA as a platform that would not only refine the skills of the students but also promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of Pakistan's cultural heritage.

NAPA offers new admissions from 1st August of every year in both disciplines i.e. Music and Theatre Arts. Students who seek to pursue a career in the performing arts have compelling reasons to choose NAPA as their educational institution:

The academy has strong ties with the entertainment industry, providing students with opportunities to network and collaborate with professionals, thus facilitating a smoother transition from academia to the professional world.

Programs Offered:

NAPA offers a variety of programs catering to different interests and aspirations within the performing arts realm. There are two types of programs available at NAPA.

1- First, a three year Diploma Program in Theatre Arts and Music.

2- Secondly, a short course of three months in any specific subject such as acting, vocals or an instrument.

Acting:

As our youngsters would like to be a celebrity overtime night; they mostly opt for the acting course. The acting program at NAPA focuses on honing the students' skills in voice modulation, body language, and emotional expression, preparing them for a successful career on stage and screen. These days a lot of NAPA graduates are making waves in Pakistani Television and Cinema. There are several names such as Saquib Sameer, Uroosa Siddiqui, Rabab Hashim, Akbar Islam, Paras Masroor, Nazr ul Hasan, Adnan Samad etc. who are making household names by their impressive performances.

Training By Directors:

Aspiring directors are given comprehensive training in the art of storytelling, script analysis, staging, and overall production management. NAPA has also produced directors; both in theatre & television and script writers such as Saqib Khan and Mohsin Ali Shah. The recent TV hit ‘Baby Baji’ is written by our very own Mansoor Ahmed Khan.

NAPA Music Program:

NAPA's music program covers both classical and contemporary music training, enabling students to become proficient in various instruments and vocal techniques. Music students are making their mark in the music industry.

Financial Aid and Scholarships:

NAPA recognizes the financial constraints that some students may face and endeavors to support them through various funding and scholarship opportunities. The Government of Pakistan often allocates scholarships for students pursuing performing arts education at NAPA. These scholarships are based on merit and financial need.

Corporate Sponsorships:

Corporate Sponsorships are also available because NAPA collaborates with corporate entities that believe in the importance of nurturing artistic talents, and they may sponsor deserving students to pursue their education at the academy.

NAPA As a Fun Place:

NAPA is a fun place in terms of activities because as a student, you can exhibit your talent at the end of the trimester. You can also enjoy various theatrical and music performances throughout the year without a ticket. You could also be able to meet famous names who are coming to NAPA on a regular basis both for workshops and for performances. In this era of Tik Tokers and Instagramers you have to be different and equipped with all the skills.

NAPA ensures that deserving students can access quality education in the performing arts, enabling them to realize their dreams and contribute to Pakistan's rich artistic heritage. Choosing NAPA is not just a step towards a rewarding career in the performing arts but also an opportunity to become a custodian of Pakistan's cultural legacy.
