Spiders took over the trees in Pakistan covering everything in sight with their webs and that way they found an enemy of humanity. It looked like a surreal scene. The trees just looked like they were wrapped in candy floss. Alerting scientists who answered the call to solve the mystery. In 2010, a heavy rainfall flooded the country and reporters traveled there to cover the phenomenon. According to them, nothing really prepared them for what they saw when they reached there. But the buds were only the beginning. To many inhabitants it was a frightening sight and an omen of the worst things to come.

As the water rose, the spiders instinctively climbed the trees, bit by bit, to protect themselves. The floods took so long to recede that the spiders ended up colonizing whole trees. The spider webs which they wove ended up embalming the branches, creating these strange sights. They were just small, harmless spiders, but there were a lot of them !

Each morning thousands of spiders were seen hanging with the trees. Luckily, some respected their space. And a while later they saw the result, the reduction of the population of Malaria carrying mosquitoes. The zone was covered in spider web and an almost negligible presence of mosquitoes between them, the ones responsible for malaria. But what seems to be a miracle of nature is a normal response by spiders when they are taken to the brink for survival. However no one wakes up one day to an invaded kitchen, in the fridge covered by spider web even on the most humid days. The flood was the reason the spiders had to find a higher ground. The spider web was the only remaining mystery and the answer came from the waters themselves. As they are breeding grounds for millions of mosquitoes. The answer was clear. Thousands of spiders confined to a smaller space and millions of mosquitoes fluttering around as food. The spiders had the feast of their lives discovering easier means of survival. In time, humans had to suffer less because of the mosquitoes as well as less cases of malaria. The spiders won’t be able to eradicate the disease but they have become an important agent in the fight. In 2012, the same phenomenon was observed. This time in Australia, the spiders not only covered the trees but complete fields of crops showing the world their frightening power. When they have to do anything to survive.
