When two cinematic blockbusters were set to be simultaneously released on the same day, the internet could not help but commemorate this occasion with endless commentary and memes. These polar opposite franchises emerged on the centre stage as a unit, rather than fight for a place on the pedestal. The riveting biography of the Father of the Atomic Bomb and the scandalous world of Barbie collided to create the phenomenon of Barbenheimer.

The producer of Barbie, Greta Gerwig is able to create an enthralling depiction of the Barbie which has been a brand as old as time. With the help of the mesmerizing Margot Robbie, this bombshell beauty, along with her beau shatter the glass ceiling to escape the shackles of Barbie World. The star-studded cast effortlessly breathes life into their respective characters, creating the illusion of an alternative reality where matriarchy is the norm and male-dominance is just a myth. The movie not only paid homage to the cherished caricature of the original Barbie doll, but also presented a wide racial diversity to rewrite their wrongs from the past.

The gist of the movie is that Barbie is moulded out to be the perfect entrepreneurial modern day woman who sees life from rose tinted glasses. Her superfluous partner, Ken A.K.A Ryan Gosling wants more than what this world has to offer. Barbie, under unexplainable circumstances starts to lose her flawless perfection and decides to travel to the real world to look for answers. Ken tags along and undergoes an existential crisis, after coming to terms with his insecurities and the insignificance of his presence in the Barbie World. His peril led the world to wonder; Are we Kenough? The movie was set out to be a social commentary on corporate patriarchy and late capitalism and has rightfully been crowned as a cinematic masterpiece in every aspect.

With countless admirers of Christopher Nolan’s creative works around the world, Oppenheimer was a highly anticipated movie release in 2023. "Oppenheimer" is evidence of Nolan's steadfast commitment to the art of filmmaking. From the very first scene, Nolan's distinctive narrative technique captures the audience's attention with an enigmatic fusion of factual reality and mind-bending fantasy.

The story revolves around J. Robert Oppenheimer, a brilliant physicist who was instrumental in the creation of the atomic bomb during World War II and had led the controversial Manhattan Project. Oppenheimer had moral conundrums and internal conflicts, which Nolan deftly explores as he digs into the character's complexity. Based on the book "American Prometheus," we learn about J. Robert Oppenheimer, who Lewis Strauss hired to lead the Manhattan Project rather than the grotesque consequences of his actions in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. J. Robert Oppenheimer, portrayed by Cillian Murphy is nothing short of extraordinary, as his nuanced portrayal compels us to empathize with Oppenheimer's moral culpability and the burden he carries as the father of the atomic bomb. However, much applause should be given to the considerably overshadowed character of Louis Strauss played by Robert Downey Jr. He had fit the narrative of the antagonist who had further disgraced the legacy of Oppenheimer.

Barbenheimer has formally shattered many box office records with a combined domestic gross of $244.5 million and a global total of approximately $537 million. Barbie had also been acclaimed to be the highest grossing movie to be directed by a woman. This unintended pairing created a culture of competitive frenzy, which aided in their global promotion. This stroke of genius was highly rewarding, as it became an internet phenomena with people dressing up in tuxedos and pink accessories to binge on these masterpieces respectively. All in all, Barbenheimer was a match made in heaven as this summer love is set to be nominated to many highly acclaimed awards in the near future.
